The Australian Road Transport Industry Organisation is the principal employer organisation party to the major Federal awards in the road transport industry.

ARTIO was directly involved in submissions/consultations conducted by the Full Bench of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) tasked with the Award Modernisation exercise by the Deputy Prime Minister. The AIRC has created the following new modern awards in the private transport industry:

• Road Transport (Long Distance Operations) Award 2010
• Road Transport and Distribution Award 2010
• Waste Management Award 2010
• Clerks – Private Sector Award 2010

These new awards commenced on 1 January 2010 and have a substantial impact on the operations of employers in the transport industry.  Along with the National Employment Standards, the Awards act as a safety net for employers and employees are required to meet these minimum standards.

These  Awards have broad application across the Private Sector Road Transport including but not limited to:

• Container Movement (import/export)
• Taxi Trucks/Courier
• Furniture Removal
• Tippers - Bulk Transport
• Livestock
• Over-dimensional
• Refrigeration
• General Freight
